God has blessed America

I am puzzled by the lack of gratitude for all of God’s blessings in our lives. Why did so many Catholics vote for a pro-choice presidential candidate? Why aren’t our Roman Catholic churches filled to capacity on Sundays?
God has truly blessed America. The Declaration of Independence professed "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." This is law in the United States of America.
This is a country of people freed from the rule of dictators. Less than two hundred years ago, in 1865, the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution abolished slavery. Four years later, the 15th Amendment gave African-Americans the right to vote. In 1919, the women’s suffrage movement resulted in the 19th Amendment, which granted women the legal right to vote. The Voting Act of 1965 was enacted to overcome legal barriers at state and local levels that had prevented African-American citizens from exercising their right to vote.

I was a product of Massachusetts pro-choice Feminism (Smith College class of '80) and other negative influences of the 1960s. In 1999, by the great mercy of God, I was guided to the Roman Catholic Mass and began my conversion journey. Several years ago I began to attend daily Mass and began my real education of the Faith. I have been guided and influenced by some of our diocese’s most amazing priests, who daily profess their love of Our Lord Jesus and truly live the Way, the Truth and the Life, obedient to the Magisterium.
Over the years I have observed the Pastor of my parish faithfully obey Holy Mother Church. I decided that I needed to better educate myself on the Commandments, the history of abortion, and the pro-choice movement. In gratitude to God, I wanted to align myself wholeheartedly with Holy Church.
"Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me" (Psalm 40:7). If we do not try to obey God’s laws, can we expect His Divine protection and blessings?
Let us not get so attached to material things and worldly pleasures and pursuits that we forget God and the great privileges we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America. We must know God’s laws in order to obey them; they are beautifully described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Part Three: Life in Christ, Section Two: The Ten Commandments.
"To do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart" (Psalm 40:9).
